Jiawei Sun

Ph.D. student and research assistant
TU Dresden

Career after graduation
After graduation from the LAP programme, I continued my research on digital holography as a PhD student at TU Dresden. In 2023, I was awarded the Doctoral degree with the highest distinction (summa cum laude), under the supervision of Prof. Juergen Czarske.

Current workplace
I am now a postdoc and working as a research associate in the Laboratory of Measurement and Sensor System Technique (MST) and the Competence Center for Biomedical Computational Laser Systems (BIOLAS) at TU Dresden. My current research focuses on fiber endoscopic imaging, optical manipulation, digital holography and adaptive microscopy. I am also responsible for teaching practical courses and supervising Bachelor and Master students‘ thesis.

What do you like most about your job?
The process of proving my research idea is enjoyable, even if the results aren't always what I expected. The joy of exploring the unknowns gave me tremendous enthusiasm for research.

To what extent has the Lasers and Photonics programme helped you?
It was a great experience to learn about laser physics and the latest optical engineering research in the LAP Programme. Also, one can learn basic optical lab skills and do fascinating research projects. All of these experiences helped me a lot in my current research. I deeply appreciate all the professors and tutors I met in Bochum.
